How to run this drill
Strength and Conditioning Program for Football – Team Conditioning Drill is built for youth, high-school, and volunteer coaches who need clear drill language — not a random cone circuit. Beginners can install the first progression; experienced staffs can layer competition.
- Read the purpose once, then walk the setup on air before live tempo.
- Demonstrate one clean rep so players see landmarks, pad level, and finish.
- Run short competitive periods — quality reps beat long lines.
- Close with one coaching cue players can repeat in the huddle next period.

This is a [tag]strength and conditioning program for football[/tag] that has worked well. It can be especially effective with smaller football teams where the players have to play both defense and offense.
If you have a small school team (27 players or less), only about 15 play on a regular basis and therefore these [tag]football[/tag] players are going both ways. So you have to teach the same guys defense and offense.
As you probably understand this is a difficult task with limited practice time. So here’s something that’ helps (lineman) work the same guys offensively and defensively to stay low and be aggressive:
Starting in a good stance they fire out and dive on their bellies (none want to stand up, then belly dive), we then bear crawl. As we bear crawl, on the coaches command, we drop and do the butt roll (left, right; as many times as you want) and then bear crawl to the end.
This is also a great conditioner. The players seem more exerted after this [tag]football drill[/tag] than with sprints.
