How to run this drill

All American Youth Football is built for youth, high-school, and volunteer coaches who need clear drill language — not a random cone circuit. Beginners can install the first progression; experienced staffs can layer competition.

  1. Read the purpose once, then walk the setup on air before live tempo.
  2. Demonstrate one clean rep so players see landmarks, pad level, and finish.
  3. Run short competitive periods — quality reps beat long lines.
  4. Close with one coaching cue players can repeat in the huddle next period.

From Bob”¦
The [tag]football[/tag] [tag]drill[/tag] I used last season which I have not seen any team ever do, for 7 and 8 year olds–I think it’s great for any age, probably [tag]running backs[/tag] mostly.

They line up for [tag]agility[/tag] drills at 15 yard distance, three to four lines of players. First hopping on one foot backwards and switching feet on their next turn up, and when they are done, I have them go forward on each foot.

By the end of the season they were good at it.

From Andy”¦
Here is a drill our kids love.
First a [tag]tackling[/tag] dummy is set up 7 yards away with a football positioned on top.
Then the player is to get in a 3 point stance with a [tag]coach[/tag] holding a shiver between the player and the dummy. Another coach blows the whistle and the player must get by the coach and tackle the dummy knocking the football to the ground. He must then roll off and recover the football.

Coaching tips

  • Keep one cue per rep so kids hear the same language every time.
  • Film the first live set; pause on footwork and finish, not just the ball.
  • Pair this drill with a matching play install so practice transfers to game day.
