From Jason…
I’m a new [tag]football coach[/tag] and I couldn’t have done this without your help.   I was injured in the military on a Special Forces mission and now I’m in a wheelchair. I thought that I would never be able to coach from the wheelchair.   But my kids love the [tag]football drills[/tag] and the parents let me know how excited their boys are about our practices.   Again, thanks, our team will not only be very competitive because of you, but also successful.   The reason we are successful is because they are learning and improving and having a great time doing it.Quarterback Drills for Football

Finally the [tag]football drill[/tag] that I want to share–
Our QBs only have 3 to 4 seconds to pass the ball before they are rushed. I have the QB take his 3 to 5 steps back and you can do thus with receivers or cones.   Have 2 to 5 areas with cones down the field or have a # of receivers run routes.   After 3 seconds, call a # that matched a receiver or cone station and have the QB immediately throw the [tag]football[/tag] to that receiver or station.

I also have 2 receivers lined up on each side of the QB and a defender 5 yards back.   I’m behind the QB so only the defender can see me.   I point a direction to notify the defender which receiver to guard.   Just after the QB says hut and steps back, I yell “go” and at that time the defender goes towards the assigned receiver and the QB has to react and throw to the unguarded receiver.

It’s great for the QB to react to the defense and find the open receiver quickly.

Coaching tips

  • Keep one cue per rep so kids hear the same language every time.
  • Film the first live set; pause on footwork and finish, not just the ball.
  • Pair this drill with a matching play install so practice transfers to game day.
