  4. Close with one coaching cue players can repeat in the huddle next period.

Full drill

When [tag]blockers[/tag] get put to the ground they will need to get up – face more blockers and then try to make a tackle.   This [tag]drill[/tag] puts the term [tag]plyometrics for football[/tag] to the test.Plyometrics for Football

What you need – Set up four tackling dummies or if you have a blocking sled, you can use this as well.

How this drill works – This [tag]football[/tag] drill starts when the coaches whistle blows and the player hand shivers and holds the sled or tackling dummy while chopping their feet up and down, and then when the whistle blows again, they drop down, roll to their left, and then hit the next part of the sled or the dummy.   Then you repeat.

By the end of this drill, your player is going to be tired, however, they are going to be much better prepared to engage blockers, be knocked over, engage and then get back into the play.   Getting knocked down is a part of football that you can’t really avoid – missing the play because of it is something they have control over.

To add an extra element to this drill, you can have a running back or receiver come straight off tackle and the defensive player needs to make the hit on them when they cross the line of scrimmage.

Result – Improved agility and ability to get back into the play if they have been blocked to the ground.
