How to run this drill

Football Training Drills – The Mighty Duck is built for youth, high-school, and volunteer coaches who need clear drill language — not a random cone circuit. Beginners can install the first progression; experienced staffs can layer competition.

  1. Read the purpose once, then walk the setup on air before live tempo.
  2. Demonstrate one clean rep so players see landmarks, pad level, and finish.
  3. Run short competitive periods — quality reps beat long lines.
  4. Close with one coaching cue players can repeat in the huddle next period.

Full drill

We call these [tag]football training drills[/tag] the “mighty duck”. This [tag]football drill[/tag] works for both defense and offense.

Your defenders will learn to shed blocks, working down field controlling his area and finishes with a tackle.   The offense learn to take a proper angle and execute an open field block.

We do this [tag]football[/tag] drill in a team competition format.
1.)   You need 1 defensive player and a minimum of 6 offensive players that includes a running back.
2.)   1 defender faces 1 offender (1st level) with a partner 2 yds. to the left and another to the right. Also 2-4 yds back (2nd level). So on and so forth. Create as many levels as you want. The defender should be facing   an “up side down” triangle.
3.) Put a RB all the way back directly across from the offender.
4.) DF reads RB hips (go right or left)
5.) Defender then proceeds down field shedding blocks through each level.
6.) Defender then uses a 2 TEK on last level. When the defender reaches the last level the RB then proceeds forward or get outside too the same direction   the defender was running.
7.) Defender must fill and finish!

Coaching tips

  • Keep one cue per rep so kids hear the same language every time.
  • Film the first live set; pause on footwork and finish, not just the ball.
