Full drill

This part of the game is very important if the offensive or defensive line wants to get a jump on their opponent.   This [tag]football speed drill[/tag] –off the snap–is just what the players need to improve speed.  Football Speed Drills

What you need – You should line up both the offensive and defensive lines against each other.   The [tag]coach[/tag] will simulate the quarterback’s cadence for the lines to work with.

How this drill works – The importance of getting off the line quickly should be stressed at this level so [tag]football[/tag] players can learn how it affects each play.

The coach will go through the cadence (which only the offensive line will know), and when the coach hutts the ball, both lines will explode into one another.   Players cannot get a jump on the snap of the ball or it is a penalty.   The offense will have an advantage because they know the snap count, but they should be penalized in practice for moving early.

Result – Players will learn to get a jump on the snap count and to explode from their stance when the ball is put into play.

Coaching tips

  • Keep one cue per rep so kids hear the same language every time.
  • Film the first live set; pause on footwork and finish, not just the ball.
  • Pair this drill with a matching play install so practice transfers to game day.
