This is a [tag]football drill[/tag] for your Offensive line.Football Offensive Lineman Drills

Get the players on the line with about 4-5 of them. They get in their 3 point stance and on the ground, where their hands will go, is a heavy ball or medicine ball.   On the whistle or cadence they fire up with the ball and launch it as far straight ahead of them as they can.   From here you can do several things. For more of a learning [tag]football[/tag] drill you can have them rush to their ball, get in a stance again and do it again.   For more competition they rush to their ball and immediately do it again for a specified length say 40 yards.

The first person to get their ball across the specified length wins.   Great for teaching getting hands up for the pass rush.

Coaching tips

  • Keep one cue per rep so kids hear the same language every time.
  • Film the first live set; pause on footwork and finish, not just the ball.
  • Pair this drill with a matching play install so practice transfers to game day.
