How to run this drill

Football for Youths is built for youth, high-school, and volunteer coaches who need clear drill language — not a random cone circuit. Beginners can install the first progression; experienced staffs can layer competition.

  1. Read the purpose once, then walk the setup on air before live tempo.
  2. Demonstrate one clean rep so players see landmarks, pad level, and finish.
  3. Run short competitive periods — quality reps beat long lines.
  4. Close with one coaching cue players can repeat in the huddle next period.

From Ryan”¦
I think that the best thing I can do as a [tag]football[/tag] [tag]coach[/tag] is provide my players with fun rewards for hard work.   I know that this is nothing new, but it is something that [tag]coaches[/tag] should continue to provide for their teams until the end of time.   Every so often, I try to break through the monotony of practice with station work that includes fun.   For example:

1.           Dizzy Bat [tag]drill[/tag]: Spin around the bat 10 times, and find the loose football
2.           Monkey Rolls
3.           Leap Frog
4.           The gauntlet
5.           An obstacle course which involves a variety of football skills, ultimately concluding with a shot on a tackling dummy
6.           Steal the Bacon

I firmly believe that players get very motivated through this type of practice.   They get that fire back which sometimes gets lost throughout the course of a season.

Coaching tips

  • Keep one cue per rep so kids hear the same language every time.
  • Film the first live set; pause on footwork and finish, not just the ball.
  • Pair this drill with a matching play install so practice transfers to game day.
