Machine Gun Technique Drills
Machine Gun drills can be used to reinforce any skill where players need lots of reps.   I have used this [tag]football drill[/tag] technique for many different types of blocking situations and tackling angles.   The drill can be 1 v 1, 2 v 2,or any combination that works for the number of players that you have.   This is a great way to integrate conditioning into the main body of [tag]football practice[/tag] as well.

Here is one example using a defensive and four offensive lineman.
One D-lineman is set up between two cones 2 yards apart.   An O-lineman sets up in the center position.   The players are head up on each other.   Once the O-lineman snaps the [tag]football[/tag], the D-linesman works specific technique (there are several) to get to the ball that was snapped.   Once the ball is touched by the D-linesman the drill stops and another O-linesman comes in.

The same player stays in defensive until he has matched up against all four offensive lineman. The defensive player exchanges places with one of the offensive players and the drill resumes.

Coaching tips

  • Keep one cue per rep so kids hear the same language every time.
  • Film the first live set; pause on footwork and finish, not just the ball.
  • Pair this drill with a matching play install so practice transfers to game day.
