How to run this drill

Football Coaching Drills – Cut up Field is built for youth, high-school, and volunteer coaches who need clear drill language — not a random cone circuit. Beginners can install the first progression; experienced staffs can layer competition.

  1. Read the purpose once, then walk the setup on air before live tempo.
  2. Demonstrate one clean rep so players see landmarks, pad level, and finish.
  3. Run short competitive periods — quality reps beat long lines.
  4. Close with one coaching cue players can repeat in the huddle next period.

Full drill

Sometimes players have a habit of running parallel to the line of scrimmage and not forward for yards. This is one of the [tag]football coaching drills[/tag] used to teach the players to cut up field. Football Coaching Drills

What you need – The running back should be behind the QB in his normal position and the WR’s should be lined up in their spot as well.

How this drill works – Upon the snap, the QB will execute either a running play or a passing play.   In this [tag]drill[/tag], the object is for the player carrying the ball to turn and square up to the line of scrimmage so they can drive the ball forward, rather than run parallel to the LOS.   You can add a few defensive players in here to make the [tag]football[/tag] drill more interesting.

Result – Your players will start to develop the habit of running up field, rather than juking a jiving sideways all of the time.

Coaching tips

  • Keep one cue per rep so kids hear the same language every time.
  • Film the first live set; pause on footwork and finish, not just the ball.
  • Pair this drill with a matching play install so practice transfers to game day.
