From Chane…
This is a great pursuit [tag]football drill[/tag].

  • I group players five at a time.
  • On the whistle they sprint from the side line to the middle of the field facing a [tag]football coach[/tag] who stands fifteen yards in front of them . The coach then yells “forward” and players run forward ten yards and hit the ground popping back up.
  • The coach then says “backward” and the players back peddle ten yards and hit the ground popping back up.   Coach then says “run right and then run left” and lastly, on the whistle, the players sprint hard to the coach and break down in [tag]football[/tag] position while chopping their feet.
  • The players’ eyes should never leave the coach during this football drill.

Coaching tips

  • Keep one cue per rep so kids hear the same language every time.
  • Film the first live set; pause on footwork and finish, not just the ball.
  • Pair this drill with a matching play install so practice transfers to game day.
