Full drill

This is one of the classic but effective [tag]catching drills for football[/tag] we use. It is excellent for your wide receivers; we call it the Adjust Drill.

Adjust Drill
Objective – Develop “over the shoulder” catching ability.
Action – Position your receivers in a single file out near the numbers. The quarterback stands at midfield with the ball.

Wide receiver #1 runs a go route looking inside for the [tag]football[/tag] but the QB throws a high arcing ball over the receiver’s outside shoulder. The wide receiver must now adjust to the outside position of the football.

Coaching Details – Be sure your players achieve a quick, fluid motion when turning their hips, shoulders and head in the adjustment to the ball. Keep the arms up and ready as they turn.

Body control is key during this [tag]wide receiver drill[/tag]!

Coaching tips

  • Keep one cue per rep so kids hear the same language every time.
  • Film the first live set; pause on footwork and finish, not just the ball.
  • Pair this drill with a matching play install so practice transfers to game day.
