It’s really hard for my OL to keep a wide base when blocking. Try these [tag]football offensive lineman drills[/tag] with your linemen. Use your blocking dummies in order to instill in them that they need a wide base and to use short choppy steps. At first it is difficult, but they will begin to understand they need a wide base to keep their balance.
Another thing to work on is staying low on both offense and defense. I used the Duck Walk last night so that they could get the feel of where I wanted them to be as well as building up leg strength. However, I also like to stack tackling dummies so that they form an entryway or door if you will. On my count they must fire off the [tag]football[/tag], stay low through the entryway, and engage another tackling dummy. If they kick the dummy on top they automatically know they are too high.
Football coaching needs a wide variety of good [tag]football drills[/tag] in order to keep each practice fresh, new and exciting. It’s tough to keep the players attention if they are constantly doing the same drills over and over and over. I would also think it would be boring to the coaching staff as well.
