How to run this drill

Football Coaching Aids is built for youth, high-school, and volunteer coaches who need clear drill language — not a random cone circuit. Beginners can install the first progression; experienced staffs can layer competition.

  1. Read the purpose once, then walk the setup on air before live tempo.
  2. Demonstrate one clean rep so players see landmarks, pad level, and finish.
  3. Run short competitive periods — quality reps beat long lines.
  4. Close with one coaching cue players can repeat in the huddle next period.

From Rodney,
When working with the young players (ages 10 -12) it is often difficult to keep their attention and focus.

In addition keeping [tag]football[/tag] [tag]drills[/tag] and activities fun, revolving and well planned, we found it very helpful to keep them vocal.   Emphasizing on counting loud at [tag]warm-up[/tag], loud breaks at the [tag]huddle[/tag] and loud group cheers during practices and games seem to use their energy in a way that pulls them together. We even have the players recognize other players who executed a play properly, who gave extra effort and even a struggling player’s improvement.

Kids are being empowered. Bonus, they also show a higher level of [tag]good sportsmanship[/tag].

From Garrett,
I ended last [tag]practice[/tag] with my 5th and 6th graders with a ‘jump and bump’ celebration [tag]drill[/tag] that we then demonstrated for the parents as part of pre-game warm-ups on opening day.

Goal: Team spirit and laughter.
Directions: form two lines facing each other with kids of similar size/weight opposing each other. Then, in pairs, have them run towards each other timing their jumps so they belly-bump at the peak of their jumps.
For experienced bumpers: once air-born, spin ¼ revolution in opposing directions and bump side to side.

Coaching tips

  • Keep one cue per rep so kids hear the same language every time.
  • Film the first live set; pause on footwork and finish, not just the ball.
  • Pair this drill with a matching play install so practice transfers to game day.
