Drills for football kickers are needed even for players that may not be performing the actual [tag]kick-off[/tag].   Making a successful kick might sound easy but there are actually fundamentals that you can coach your team on.Drills for Football Kickers

This drill for [tag]football[/tag] [tag]kickers[/tag] is a simple one.   The purpose of this [tag]drill[/tag] is to get your team to work together while covering the kickoff correctly.   Position ten coverage players and a kicker in the proper position on the field with five coverage players on each side of the ball.   Prior to the kick you’ll tell the ball-receiver which direction he should run down the field.   Begin the drill with only the two kick returners on the field to catch the ball.   When you blow your whistle, your kicker kicks the ball and the coverage people should move down the field to make their coverage.   The kick returner that catches the ball will run up the field in whichever direction you appointed him to.   He should continue   running until you blow your whistle.

There are specific techniques that you’ll want to look for while the team performs this drill for football kickers.   All of your coverage players should start their forward run with your kicker and they should be going at full speed when the kicker meets the ball.   Each player needs to run their correct coverage lane while they sprint.   You should coach your team to never run in the footsteps of another teammate!   Basically, you want to watch and decide if the play would have been successful in a real game.   If the answer is no then you must keep practicing that drill.

This next drill for football kickers is a “live” follow-up to the first drill.   This is the part where you’re going to bring in your defense.   You will have the offensive kicking unit kick the ball live against the defensive team.   So everything that was taught in the first drill is going to be put to the test.   The goal of this drill is for the defensive team to block all of the balls.   You’ll have your full offensive and defensive side on the field.   You just want to make sure that everybody is doing their jobs.   This is called a “live” play because it is one that involves game-scenarios. Then, you will make the kick-off.   Everyone needs to incorporate the first drill into this drill but this drill for football kickers is focusing more on the blockers instead of the runners.

It is good when you’re able to use two different [tag]drills[/tag] together because then the practice is more unified by concentrating on a specific aspect of the game.   [tag]Drills for football kickers[/tag] allows the team to see the kick-off from both sides.   You’ll be giving your team a taste of real game situations.
