Full drill
The days of mindless running for conditioning are over. Why not take the [tag]conditioning drills for football[/tag] that you work on everyday and turn up the intensity and length and make it a real conditioning drill!
Suggestions:
- Use [tag]agility football drills[/tag] and widen the drill out. Instead of having a 5×5 box drills make it a 30×30 box drill and set up 3 or 4 of them so everyone is going at the same time.
- Push the sled a little farther, longer chute blocking drills (we have a 20 yard chute that the players really hate but it is great for staying low).
- Have all the receivers line up on the goal line and have the [tag]football coach[/tag] yell out a route (the players run the route), then blow the whistle and yell out another pattern. Do this all the way down the field stressing full speed and crisp routes.
An extra tip for you: As coaching staff, stand back and let the players call their own plays and substitute after each play. Once in a while the players get creative and run an option or a pass to spice things up. Players really get into it and really get into each other.
No one on my team runs more than a 40 yard sprint without change of direction. [tag]Football[/tag] is a multidirectional sport and conditioning should reflect that!
