How to run this drill

Becoming a Football Coach is built for youth, high-school, and volunteer coaches who need clear drill language — not a random cone circuit. Beginners can install the first progression; experienced staffs can layer competition.

  1. Read the purpose once, then walk the setup on air before live tempo.
  2. Demonstrate one clean rep so players see landmarks, pad level, and finish.
  3. Run short competitive periods — quality reps beat long lines.
  4. Close with one coaching cue players can repeat in the huddle next period.

From Kevin,
Here is one of the [tag]football drills[/tag] we do in practice for running backs, wide receivers and quarterbacks.
Give the ball to one back and have another behind him holding on to his jersey. Blow the whistle and have the back pull the other [tag]football[/tag] player 5yds to 10yds. Have the [tag]football coach[/tag] hitting at the ball mid way through the football drill.
This will help the running back keep his legs moving after contact and dragging tacklers. Plus it teaches them to run down hill instead of upright.

From Derrick,
The thing that I do is at the end of each [tag]football practice[/tag] and right before games I make my whole team get on their backs in a nut cracker position about 3 yards apart and blow the whistle and let them go at it for about 5 to 10 sec. The kids love it and it gets them ready for the next practice and the next game!

Coaching tips

  • Keep one cue per rep so kids hear the same language every time.
  • Film the first live set; pause on footwork and finish, not just the ball.
  • Pair this drill with a matching play install so practice transfers to game day.
