  1. Read the purpose once, then walk the setup on air before live tempo.
  2. Demonstrate one clean rep so players see landmarks, pad level, and finish.
  3. Run short competitive periods — quality reps beat long lines.
  4. Close with one coaching cue players can repeat in the huddle next period.

I find that the traditional ideas for [tag]youth football drills and tips[/tag] can get a bit stale.   Here’s a [tag]football practice[/tag] idea that Taylor sent to me that has livened things up quite a bit in my practices.Youth Football Drills and Tips

From Taylor”¦
We have a [tag]football drill[/tag] around here called “Death Alley“.

You have the boys pair up into groups of 2 and you separate them into 2 different lines each at one side.
You need six training bags or matts you use for jumping over for conditioning. Lay them in an alley; have 2 groups come up on each of the alley and lay on their backs facing the sky.

When you blow the whistle they jump up and while they’re getting up throw them a [tag]football[/tag] at which time they will use one who doesn’t have the ball to block and the other for the running back. Tell the runner not to be afraid to get physical with the hits if the team with the ball makes it through, then the ones on defense stay out there and another team comes to run the ball.

If they fail the second time go ahead and let them up and back into the group.   After one group is done another jumps in, and there you have it–a fun way to get your boys to start playing physical with each other and thinking under pressure.

Coaching tips

  • Keep one cue per rep so kids hear the same language every time.
  • Film the first live set; pause on footwork and finish, not just the ball.
  • Pair this drill with a matching play install so practice transfers to game day.
