How to run this drill

Youth Football Coaching – Quarterback Drill is built for youth, high-school, and volunteer coaches who need clear drill language — not a random cone circuit. Beginners can install the first progression; experienced staffs can layer competition.

  1. Read the purpose once, then walk the setup on air before live tempo.
  2. Demonstrate one clean rep so players see landmarks, pad level, and finish.
  3. Run short competitive periods — quality reps beat long lines.
  4. Close with one coaching cue players can repeat in the huddle next period.

We have started [tag]football practice[/tag] two weeks ago for spring ball with our youth leagues. Here is a [tag]football drill[/tag] that is an “old” favorite of mine.Youth Football Coaching

Quarterback drill – we set up five dummies that represent the spacing of an offensive line. We have the QB’s take their drop behind the dummies, then simulate a rush with one of four defenders from either a LB or DT position.   As he steps up in one of the “unprotected” rush lanes, the qb throws the [tag]football[/tag].   With touch, as he is stepping up to one of the garbage cans we have set up downfield–his pass is successful if he throws the ball inside of one of the cans, or at least touching the rim of the cans.

We run a wing-t offense – and we have included a waggle drill from this set as well – having the qb throw the ball as he is coming out of his fake to the halfback and running to the flank with the ball.

Coaching tips

  • Keep one cue per rep so kids hear the same language every time.
  • Film the first live set; pause on footwork and finish, not just the ball.
  • Pair this drill with a matching play install so practice transfers to game day.
