If you’re coaching a youth flag football team, here are a couple of [tag]free flag football drills[/tag] which your players will like and ask for repeatedly.

Flag Pulling
To practice flag pulling and have a little fun competition:
Make a square 15 yd x 15 yd
Put 8 players all in the box
Have them spread out

Then on the whistle, the [tag]football[/tag] players will try to elude the other players while trying pull the other player’s flag.   Watch for good form when pulling, & practice hip twist and spin to avoid having your flag pulled.   As the player has their flag pulled they step out of the box.   The last player remaining in the box is the winner.

Flag Tag Games
When coaching kids 6-8 year olds [tag]flag football[/tag], one of the biggest challenges is drills that keep all of kids involved in order to keep them engaged.
The kids love the flag tag games such as Bull in a Ring, Sharks and Minnows. We have been using this at mid and end of [tag]football practice[/tag] as reward for focus and participation in the skills and plays [tag]football drills[/tag].

Kids   with great focus get to start as the shark or bull.

Coaching tips

  • Keep one cue per rep so kids hear the same language every time.
  • Film the first live set; pause on footwork and finish, not just the ball.
  • Pair this drill with a matching play install so practice transfers to game day.
