How to run this drill
Football Practice Drills – Tip Drill is built for youth, high-school, and volunteer coaches who need clear drill language — not a random cone circuit. Beginners can install the first progression; experienced staffs can layer competition.
- Read the purpose once, then walk the setup on air before live tempo.
- Demonstrate one clean rep so players see landmarks, pad level, and finish.
- Run short competitive periods — quality reps beat long lines.
- Close with one coaching cue players can repeat in the huddle next period.
Full drill
This [tag]football practice drill[/tag] can be used at any level for developing concentration and reaction skills.

What you need – Your [tag]coach[/tag] to throw the ball and a single file line with the appropriate catching players.
How this drill works – The first person in the line will be the tipper and the next in line will be the catcher. The coach will toss the ball and it is the tippers job, not to knock down, but to tip or deflect or to distract the player catching the ball. The receiver tries to catch the ball regardless of what the tipper does.
Once you go through the first pair, then the receiver will go to the tip position, and the person behind him will be the catcher – and you continue the drill.
Result – The result will be better concentration for tipped balls – something that happens a great deal at all levels of [tag]football[/tag].
