I picked up these [tag]football lineman drills[/tag] in an idea swap. I use this drill to teach our pass patterns in the pre-seaon. I use it a lot and feel obligated to pass it on to you.
ZOO DRILL (QB / WR Drill)
Set up: 8 [tag]football[/tag]s, 4 cones. Set up 4 cones about 3 yards apart between the hashmarks. A QB will line up behind each cone. Set up 4 lines of WR (2 lines to the left of the QBs and 2 to the right.
Procedure: Each QB station will throw to a set WR station (I usually have the far left QB throw to the far left WR, etc.) Each WR station has a specific route to run -ex- Station #1-5 yd out, #2- Post, #3- 10 yd across, #4- 7 yd hitch. QB on far right calls the cadence and all 4 stations run their routes at the same time. After each WR gets a couple of reps, all groups rotate to the next station.
Coaching Points: Great [tag]football drill[/tag] for teaching routes (at the younger ages, we will set up cones marking out each pass route) and gives all kids a chance at playing QB(youth level). I use this drill to teach our pass patterns in the preseaon.
During the season, this football drill is very useful when running our pass plays(gives QB chance to throw to each route in the play to help remember what ALL of his options are, not just the primary receiver).
