This is one of my favorite [tag]football lineman drills[/tag] that is great for high school level [tag]football[/tag] to teach the defensive line to keep their motor going and shedding blocks. It also helps with the offensive line delivering positioning blocks. I call it 20 seconds of hell.
1 DL vs two OL & ball carrier in a 10 x 10 yd box. DL has about 20 seconds to tackle the ball carrier.
Rule is that ball carier must stay inside the box and each OL is assigned to 1/2 of the box (5yd x 10yd) & (cannot cross over other area). On the [tag]football coach[/tag]’s whistle DL has to beat block by OL and get to other box to chase RB and beat second block by OL while RB will run around setting up blocks inside the box.
There are no double teams by OL and each will block DL if they cross into their half of the box.
We used the fastest player to make a tackle and he got out of conditioning at end of [tag]football practice[/tag]. Depending on the effort you may let the clock keep going 30-60 sec until they make the tackle, however most would run out of gas long before then. Great conditioning [tag]football drill[/tag] also.
