How to run this drill
Football Drills for Kids – Bear Crawl-Crab Crawl Drill is built for youth, high-school, and volunteer coaches who need clear drill language — not a random cone circuit. Beginners can install the first progression; experienced staffs can layer competition.
- Read the purpose once, then walk the setup on air before live tempo.
- Demonstrate one clean rep so players see landmarks, pad level, and finish.
- Run short competitive periods — quality reps beat long lines.

Full drill
This is one of the [tag]football drills for kids[/tag] that I recommend. It is a favorite with the players and the skill improvements speak for themselves.
Drill: Bear Crawl/Crab Crawl Fumble Drill
Ӣ Have two lines
Ӣ One [tag]football[/tag] player from each line does a Bear Crawl or Crab Crawl (both lines does the same crawl).
Ӣ The [tag]football coach[/tag] throws a ball in the air.
Ӣ When it hits the ground the players can get up and run to the ball.
Ӣ The first player to the ball picks it up and runs back from where they originally started from (the finish line).
Ӣ The other player must tackle the player with the ball before he reaches the finish line, if not, he does 5 push-ups.
Positive: I get a good response from the kids, they enjoy this [tag]football drill[/tag].
Negative: The only problem with this drill is it does not teach the kids to drop on a fumble.
