Agility Drills for the Defensive Line

Slalom Drill

This is another great lateral change of direction shuffle, that is excellent for working out the quads. At the end of this drill, you’re going to burst five yards.

Every Foot Drill

This drill is great for rhythm and coordination. The athlete is going to step over every bag leading with the onside foot, hitting both feet in every hole, while using good arm action. After the last bag, he’s going to turn and burst five yards.

Change of Direction Drill

The athlete is going to step over every bag leading with the onside foot, hitting both feet in every hole with good arm action. Once he clears the last bag, he’s going to play off a cut block.

When you play off the cut block off the orange ball, you want to see his eyes down and then he’s going to pop that ball back to you. He’s then going to do the same thing back through.

Coaching tips

  • For bag / agility work, prioritize high knees, eyes up, and ball security through traffic.
  • Keep one cue per rep so kids hear the same language every time.
  • Film the first live set; pause on footwork and finish, not just the ball.
  • Pair this drill with a matching play install so practice transfers to game day.
