Purpose

This basic wide receiver drill for kids emphasizes good technique of good base, good reach, catch, and tuck.

  1. The receiver turns his back and on command by the quarterback – you can just use the term “ball” – he’ll turn around and catch the ball.
  2. Each receiver takes a shot trying to emphasize getting the head around, reaching out, catching, and tucking.
  3. We want to always emphasize tucking the football after we catch it.
  4. Ball security is the number one priority after you receive the football.

Coaching tips

  • Keep one cue per rep so kids hear the same language every time.
  • Film the first live set; pause on footwork and finish, not just the ball.
