Full drill

Drill Type:   Wide Receiver Drill

Purpose

This drill will improve your wide receiver’s speed, agility and response time.

Set Up

Set up six cones so that they are in 90-degree angles to one another.   This will allow you to work on your out-cuts.

Execution

  1. Begin at one end on the outside of the cones, and run as fast as you can to the second cone, and then cut to the next.
  2. Continue to run and cut, staying on the outsides of the cones (see diagram)
  3. Work the 90-degree drill both ways so you get both cuts, coming and going in the different directions.

Coaching Tips

Remind your players of the following:

  • Weight over those knees
  • Stick that outside foot
  • Work those outside hands

Coaching tips

  • Keep one cue per rep so kids hear the same language every time.
  • Film the first live set; pause on footwork and finish, not just the ball.
  • Pair this drill with a matching play install so practice transfers to game day.
